High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) separates a sample into its individual components as they pass through a column.
Purity is reported as area percent: the area of the main peak divided by the total area of all peaks, expressed as a percentage.
A higher purity figure means fewer co-eluting impurities, which supports more reproducible laboratory results.
HPLC purity is a measure of relative composition, not absolute concentration; identity is confirmed separately by mass spectrometry.
