Thymosin beta-4 is a 43-amino-acid, approximately 5 kDa polypeptide encoded by the TMSB4X gene, the most abundant member of the beta-thymosin family in mammalian tissue and the principal G-actin sequestering peptide. Lys-38 cross-links to Gln-41 with a G-actin monomer to form 1:1 complexes; it can also depolymerize F-actin. TB-500 is a synthetic peptide corresponding to the active region. Published work identifies the actin-binding motif as essential to angiogenic activity. Thymosin beta-4 and related compounds are prohibited at all times under the WADA code. Research use only. Not for human consumption.
